I could have a chance to attend to a startup reception and work shop of “East to West Sweets Encyclopedia “ by INA-MATT at Tsutaya in Hirado.
Hirado, located at the west end of Kyushu Island, is known as one of the first international port to import European culture. It was like an expression of curiosity of Japanese people at Edo era.
In European history, the place used to be called "FILAND" friendly.
The gap between the international image and scenic beautiful view of sea and beach of Hirado can be connected to our Japanease complicated imagery mixed with modest mind and curiosity. To be honest, I feel the same image to Netherland.
The communication between Hirado and Holland in the Edo era had made the “Sweets Encyclopedia", but most of them has been gone.
The project is a try to make new series of sweets again by research activity with historical data and old molds.
But I felt through the startup event that the project must be started by just simply curiosity of Hirado people and Netherland artists again same as the last event in the Edo era.
I can't wait the launch event in October.
